Enrichment Center

THE INTERGENERATIONAL ENRICHMENT CENTER OF THE YOUNG ISRAEL OF DEERFIELD BEACH

The Intergenerational Enrichment Center is a senior citizen tutoring program of the Young Israel of Deerfield Beach, Florida. The program is comprised of retired education professionals who provide assistance to early childhood youngsters in area of Hebrew reading proficiency skills.

The tutors work 1 to 1 with individual students. This permits the tutors to develop an important social relationship as they address the student’s specific learning challenges. As a result, the tutors provide teachers with that necessary intervention that enables critical targeted enrichment and permits the individual student to master challenging educational tasks. The tutoring sessions can either be face-to-face or remotely through Zoom, depending on the tutor and student’s schedule and availability.

The three goals of the program are to: 1) enhance young elementary school students’ Hebrew reading ability; 2) enrich the intergenerational relationships between senior citizens and young children; and 3) provide professional education retirees with a meaningful and rewarding opportunity that emanates from their professional career.

This project enhances the academic life of the youngster and the tutor. To date, the program has proven to be a welcome and successful contribution to the Jewish education community. To participate in this exciting and rewarding initiative, please contact either Rabbi Dr. Martin Schloss at 646-644-2657 or Marla Turk at 516-761-9078.
