Our History
In 1980, 20 Century Village residents rented a small storefront in adjacent Century Plaza to organize our first Shul. By 1995, 4 more storefronts were added to the original one to accommodate the large influx of families to the new Young Israel.
Six years later, in 2001, with membership swelling beyond 600, preliminary discussions were held about building a permanent structure. By Rosh Hashanah of 2004 the majestic new edifice of the Young Israel of Deerfield Beach was completed on the site of a filled lake.
The foresight shown in the architectural plans, considered the present as well as the future. The main sanctuary, with modern acoustic design, seats nearly 700 people. With interior folding doors open the capacity swells to over 1200. With stained glass windows depicting the Ten Commandments, as well as the Twelve Tribes, this Shul is a sight to behold.
Our wheelchair accessible building has been designed to meet all of our members' needs; two social halls, library, Sisterhood Room, gift shop, administrative offices, Rabbi's study, Beis Midrash and kitchen along with a Sukkot plaza and kailim mikvah, our Shul is indeed self-sufficient.
We offer many shiuyrim throughout each day, multiple minyanim and adult education on Thursday's and Shabbos for men and women. Our Sisterhood is a highly valued arm of our Shul. We have variouis tzedakah programs helping the needy locally and abroad.
